The story of several families whose lives are intertwined in an unusual way. Back home after World war II, Willard tries to shake off painful memories. Soon he meets a cafe worker Charlotte and marries her, but the girl gets cancer, and Willard tries to atone for all his sins, forgetting about his son. In the same cafe, Carl and sandy meet-serial killers who have set up a hunt for defenseless victims in several States. In the middle of it all, Arvin is the son of Willard and Charlotte, who is growing up with his half — sister Lenora, the daughter of a preacher.
